Carbon data management

‍

A carbon footprint, decarbonisation roadmap or SBTi target is only as reliable as the data behind it. Pantarein helps you build a robust carbon data landscape, from source systems and data quality to automation, dashboards and AI.

Why carbon data management?

Reporting requirements and initiatives such as CSRD, CBAM, SBTi and EcoVadis require consistent, audit-ready figures year after year. A one-off measurement is therefore not enough. At the same time, carbon data is often spread across ERP systems, invoicing platforms, energy management systems and separate Excel files. This can lead to inconsistencies, repeated work and loss of knowledge.

‍

Collecting Scope 3 data is also labour-intensive and difficult to scale without the right processes, tools and integrations. A structured data landscape turns carbon reporting into a continuous, manageable process, rather than an annual rush.

Who is this for?

  • Companies that calculate their carbon footprint annually and want to make the process more efficient and robust
  • Organisations working with complex or fragmented data systems, multiple entities, sites or source systems
  • Companies that want to monitor SBTi, CSRD or internal climate targets continuously through dashboards rather than relying on annual reporting
  • Companies that want to use automation and AI to speed up data collection, processing and analysis

Our approach

We work in six steps:

‍

  1. Mapping your data systems - For each GHG scope, category and entity, we map the data sources being used, who owns the data and how much time is spent collecting. We then prioritise the key areas based on their contribution to your footprint and the time required, and define concrete next steps.
  2. Data quality - We document the methodology used, carry out data checks and validate the underlying data. This means you know not only where your figures come from, but also how reliable they are.
  3. Roadmap - We translate the analysis into a clear, actionable roadmap. Where relevant, we explore opportunities to connect data systems and calculation tools via APIs, reducing the need for manual data transfers.
  4. Automation - We automate carbon data collection and calculations wherever this can be done efficiently and reliably. Through targeted test cases, we identify the processes with the greatest potential for automation.
  5. Dashboards and reporting tools - We set up dashboards and reporting tools that allow you to monitor carbon data and climate targets on an ongoing basis. This helps you move from an annual exercise to continuous monitoring.
  6. AI applications - We use AI where it can genuinely add value, for example by automating recurring tasks and templates, speeding up emissions factor mapping based on procurement or P&L data, and performing routine data checks. AI can also help automate parts of your reporting and make year-on-year comparisons more efficient. Throughout the process, we work closely with the project team through workshops and regular consultation.

What does carbon data management deliver?

  • Efficiency: reduce manual work and make data collection and carbon reporting more efficient.
  • Clarity: gain a clear overview of data sources, data ownership and time spent per entity and GHG category, supported by a prioritised roadmap.
  • Data quality: work with reliable, consistent and audit-ready figures.
  • Continuous monitoring: track your climate targets throughout the year through dashboards, rather than relying on an annual calculation.
  • Scalability: build a data landscape that can grow with additional reporting requirements, entities and emissions scopes.
  • A foundation for automation and AI: create a structured data landscape that enables you to automate further processes and make targeted use of AI.
