Water scarcity, flood risk and water pollution represent an operational and financial risk for a growing number of sectors. Think of food producers, textile processors, chemical companies and data centres, which depend directly on the availability of water. Or of the increasingly strict discharge standards for waste water. But indirect exposure to water risks is growing too, through suppliers and raw material chains.

The CSRD requires an analysis of water risks in line with ESRS E3. The EU Taxonomy links water use to the 'do no significant harm' criteria. And customers and contracting authorities are asking more and more questions about your water footprint and water management. Companies that do not understand their water risks not only report incompletely, they also miss opportunities for cost reduction and supply chain transparency.

We work in four steps:

1. Water footprint and exposure – We map how much water your organisation uses, where and at which stages of the process. We then link that water footprint to site-specific risk data (WRI Aqueduct, CDP Water) to determine which sites are located in water-scarce or water-sensitive areas.
2. Risk analysis – Which physical water risks (drought, for example) and transition risks (such as stricter discharge standards) are relevant to your activities and value chain? We assess materiality for each site and value chain relationship.
3. Water strategy and targets – On the basis of the risk analysis, we help you formulate a water strategy with reduction targets, priority measures for each site or process step, and targets for water quality and closing the loop.
4. Reporting and embedding – The water analysis and strategy are documented in line with ESRS E3: water consumption intensities, at-risk sites, targets and measures. Ready for CSRD reporting and external verification.
