Deforestation & EUDR

Demonstrating that your supply chains are deforestation-free

If you import, export or trade cattle, wood, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy or rubber – or products derived from them – within the EU, you will soon need to demonstrate that these commodities are deforestation-free and produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin. Pantarein helps you build that evidence: from plot-level traceability to a watertight due diligence system.

The EUDR in practice

Large and medium-sized operators must comply from 30 December 2026. Penalties for non-compliance include fines, confiscation of goods and a temporary ban on market participation.

‍What does the EUDR require?

  • Plot-level traceability for all commodities concerned
  • A risk assessment for each country and region of origin
  • An official Due Diligence Statement (DDS) for each market entry
  • Documented mitigation measures for any identified risks
  • Retention of all documentation for a minimum of five years

‍Which businesses does this affect?

  • Importers and traders that place the seven commodities concerned, or products derived from them, on the EU market
  • Manufacturers of food, wood products, cosmetics, leather or rubber that source raw materials from risk-rated countries
  • Retailers and distributors that are required to demonstrate traceability
  • Businesses that do not yet have a structured traceability system in place for their supply chain

Our approach

Plot-level traceability calls for a clear supply chain logic, effective communication with your suppliers and a documented process. We bring all these dimensions together in one approach.

  • Scope and product analysis – Which of your commodities fall under the EUDR? Which products and product lines are in scope? What is the geographical origin and risk profile of your supplier base?
  • Traceability and data collection – Working together with your suppliers, we guide you in setting up a system to collect, validate and store plot coordinates and origin data.
  • Risk assessment – Drawing on the European country benchmarking system and additional sector data, we help you conduct a documented risk assessment for each commodity and region of origin.
  • DDS and compliance process – We help you draw up the required statements, establish an internal approval process, and safeguard documentation obligations for the mandatory five years.
  • Software support – Together, we assess which tools can support the traceability and due diligence process: from plot data registration to risk assessment and DDS generation.

What does it deliver?

  • Retaining market access: non-compliant products are stopped at the border or withdrawn from the market
  • Strengthening supply chain resilience: understanding the origin of your raw materials also protects you against operational and reputational risks
  • Meeting customer and retail requirements: major retailers are increasingly making EUDR compliance a condition for their suppliers
  • Laying a foundation for broader reporting: traceability data also feed into your reporting on deforestation and biodiversity
